More about Shabeena's Mandalas

Posted by Shabeena Helsley on February 28, 2013 at 11:15 AM Comments comments (0)

These original, one of a kind geometric, circular designs are completely handmade by Shabeena Helsley. Basic tools such as a compass, a protractor and a ruler were utilized to create the initial guide-lines, and the rest is done freehand. The designs retain their organic essence, and the imperfections lend them a unique quality and feel. They are not only meant to be visually appealing but have significance by means of color, number and symbols used in each piece. They are called Mandala, which means “circle” in Sanskrit, and are prevalent in all cultures throughout the world, such as stained glass in cathedrals, as halos, a crown of thorns, dream-catchers, Celtic knots, etc.

A circle has many meanings such as perfection, eternity, unity and completeness. The elements in the mandalas are visually balanced and designed to draw the mind and allow it to clear the thoughts and invite a more philosophical or spiritual essence to envelope the observer which in turn leads to higher consciousness or awareness.
